A new model for housing investment

The Greater Cambridge City Deal partners are establishing a Housing Development Agency, with investment from the City Deal. The HDA will bring together City Deal partners’ skills, land and finance to build new homes, including affordable housing, on public sector land. This partnership approach will complement private sector housing development by ensuring that new homes are still built during economic downturns and is expected to lead to opportunities for new housing that would not otherwise come forward.

The HDA will be formally established in April 2016. Officers in Cambridge City Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council are already working together on opportunities for new housing on public sector land. They are also exploring joint working with other organisations that will help to deliver the houses, including affordable homes, the area needs.

The HDA aims to help deliver some of the 1,000 extra homes in rural areas that the City Deal includes.
